Making TIME TO PLAY - A Behind the Scenes Look

Time To Play Campaign

There's a particular kind of morning that every golfer knows. The alarm goes off before the sun rises. The house is quiet. You pour your coffee quickly. And for a few hours each week, the work, the obligations, the relentless pace of life, falls away completely.

That feeling is exactly what we set out to capture.

TIME TO PLAY is Motocaddy Australia's first major brand awareness campaign, and we built it around a single, honest idea: time is the one resource no golfer can buy more of. We all know what it takes to carve out a four-hour window in a week full of competing demands. The last thing you want is to arrive at the course, spend it fighting your gear, and leave feeling exhausted.

Finding the Right Location

When you're building a campaign around the beauty of the game and the joy of finally playing it, the course matters as much as the cast.

We chose St Michael's Golf Club on the eastern coast of Sydney, and the decision couldn't have been more right. Tucked along a dramatic stretch of clifftop coastline, St Michael's gave us everything: sweeping fairways, spectacular ocean views, and the kind of golden light that you can't fake in a studio.

Sydney endured relentless rain in the lead-up to the shoot. We were watching the forecast nervously. But on the morning of Day 1, the downpour held off, and the sun came out gloriously over the coast. We enjoyed one of those rare, luminous Sydney mornings that feel like a reward for our patience. We couldn't have scripted it better.

We set up on the 13th tee, carefully positioned away from the club's regular flow of play. Golf courses don't stop for film crews, and we wanted to be guests, not disruptions.

The Team Behind the Camera

A production is only as good as the people on it.

Behind the lens was Sydney-local Tom Skolarikis from Skethio Creative and Sideline Eye Photography, whose eye for movement shaped the visual identity of everything we captured. From sweeping drone shots over the clifftop fairways to close-up details of our Motocaddy range, Tom's work runs through every frame of the campaign.

Fitting out our main characters in golf attire that reflected our backdrop was a challenge. Filming at the beginning of winter, with less-than-ideal weather conditions, yet with a desire to reflect Australian golf in all its summer glory. So, we spoke to our mates at Birds of Condor, a Byron Bay-based golf brand, who hooked us up with two modern golf looks for our main characters.

On the ground, the Motocaddy Australia team members - Catherine Arkoudis and Emma Thom - managed the shoot logistics, coordinated product inventory, and ensured every item was where it needed to be, when it needed to be there. That's no small task when you're wrangling electric buggies, a full bag range, and a spread of accessories across 3 shoot days!

The Cast

The TIME TO PLAY campaign follows a story arc, and like any good story, it needed the right people to tell it.

Oliver Gebert, a PGA Professional registered with the Professional Golfers' Association of Australia, plays our main character. He is exactly the golfer we built this campaign around: someone who has earned his round, who plays with real intent, and who expects his gear to keep up. Watching Ollie move through the course - purposeful, composed, completely at ease - made it easy to believe in every scene.

Andrew Mendes joined as our supporting character and regular club golfer, giving the campaign the grounded energy of the everyday player. Golf is best when shared with good friends, and their dynamic on screen reflects that.

Portia Hill  (IG @portialianagolf), Motocaddy's Brand Ambassador, brought her own chapter to the film shoot. Portia's presence reinforces what we believe: that the course belongs to everyone, and that the best gear should too.

And then there was our youngest cast member - Sofia, a junior golfer at the very beginning of her journey with the game. There's something genuinely uplifting about watching a beginner find their footing on a golf course for the first time, and Sofia's youthful shots carry that energy throughout.

Day One: Getting into the Swing of Things

Call time was 7 am, the 13th tee at St Michael's Golf Club. The early morning light diffused by a blanket of clouds, with fresh dew glistening on the fairway.

What followed was almost seven hours of shooting. Storyline footage, lifestyle shots, product sequences, and those spectacular drone passes over the coastline that will anchor the campaign's visual identity.

The product range we had on course was extensive. Both the M7 REMOTE and ME REMOTE electric buggies joined our two golfers for the campaign, showcasing what effortless technology looks like during a proper round of golf. We also featured the PROTEKTA and Pro-Series golf bags, alongside the QB2 Push Buggy and EliteFLEX Hybrid golf bag for the lifestyle segments of the day.

We also made time for the locker room. A full photography session of our favourite Motocaddy bags, styled in a clean, modern locker room setting.

Day Two: Before the Tee Time

The campaign isn't just about what happens on the course. It's about everything that happens before you get there.

Day two took us off-site to a residential setting, an Australian household, and the surrounding streetscape. This is the quiet chapter of the campaign. No big promotional product placements. Just the truth of a golfer's morning and the week that led to it.

Scenes of a pre-dawn alarm. Coffee poured in the semi-darkness. The weight of the week - work, exercise, everything else - pressing in before that first swing off the tee box finally offers relief. We aimed to capture the quiet rituals that show the process of getting ready to go: the gear loaded into the car boot, the drive through the early morning, the call to a mate who is running late for their tee time.

It's the most personal part of the campaign, and the one most likely to make you stop mid-scroll and think: that's me.

Day Three: Driving it Home

Our last shoot day saw a smaller crew of three return to St Michael's to capture supporting content for this campaign. While our storyline was complete, we aimed to capture some key features of the Motocaddy range with a sneak peek at the new 2026 model due to land on Australian shores later this year.

Accessories, often overlooked in campaigns, all made it in front of the lens. The PRO 5000 Laser Rangefinder, Deluxe SeatScorecard Holder, Clearview umbrella, Umbrella holder and Extender, and Device Cradle are all showcased as a way to complete your setup.

What We Made

Three hero reels form the spine of the TIME TO PLAY campaign, each one named for a word in the title.

TIME is the emotional opening act: a cinematic, ambient portrait of a golfer's morning before taking his first swing. TO is the tension reel: a rapid-fire sequence of every obligation that competes for a golfer's attention, building to a single moment of quiet relief. PLAY is the resolution: Motocaddy in full motion, energetic and a showcase of our product range.

Together, they tell the complete story. Separately, each one earns your attention.

Why It Matters

We've talked about golf gear for a long time. This campaign was a chance to talk about something bigger.

Motocaddy is the world's #1 electric buggy brand. More than 800,000 golfers across 40 countries have chosen it. But behind those numbers is something simpler: a golfer who wants to stop grinding through their round and start enjoying it. Someone who wants fresh legs on the back nine. A clear head on the 18th. The best four hours of your week, because you've earned it.

That's what TIME TO PLAY is about. And that's what we went to St Michael's Golf Club to capture.

The Motocaddy Australia TIME TO PLAY campaign launches on Friday, 12 June. Follow along on Instagram and Facebook.

We would like to give thanks to the Australian businesses who helped produce this campaign:

We carry the weight. You play the game.
